Kate's Mystery Books to close August 1

By now you've probably heard the sad news that Kate's Mystery Books in Cambridge is closing. Another independent mystery bookstore bites the dust. Kate Mattes opened Kate's Mystery Books in 1983. Last year she won the Raven Award from MWA "for outstanding achievement in the mystery field outside the realm of creative writing."

J.Kingston Pierce has more of the story at The Rap Sheet.

There will be a big sale and packing day on August 1 from 11:00-5:00.

Given the rash of such news lately, I'm amazed *and not a little smug* that Minneapolis, where I used to live, still has 2 independent mystery bookstores (and 2 SF ones as well, though one is also a comic or graphic novel place). And supposedly more live theaters per capita than anywhere....They need something to do when it's 40 below, you betcha.
